Council praised for its budgeting

THE way Warrington Borough Council manages its budget has been cited as good practice in a national report.
The New Local Government Network recently published its Smart Budget report, exploring how councils across the country are managing their budgets and the financial pressuresof recent years.
The network visited Warrington as a case study for good practice and the report includes some of the innovative ways the council is managing its budget and dealing with financial challenges.
Cllr Russ Bowden said: “All councils are in the same position but it is good that Warrington is being recognised for leading the way in finding new solutions. This year we have aligned our budget to focus on seven key outcomes. Colleagues from across the council who wouldn’t normally come together, are sharing ideas and generating new solutions.
“Warrington faces significant financial and social challenges, but by encouraging creativity and innovation, and listening to our partners and residents we aim to provide the services that matter most to our residents but with a much smaller budget.”
