Blaze house saved by smoke alarm

A SMOKE alarm alerted a Warrington man to a fire in his house after he had gone to bed – and as a result saved the property from suffering severe damage.
The blaze was in the living room of a semi-detached house in Liverpool Road, Great Sankey and was contained to the one room as a result of the occupier closing all internal doors before going to bed.
Two fire engines from Warrington were called to the scene and crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.
The smoke alarm was fitted in the house by the fire service in 2010.
Firefighters treated the householder for slight smoke inhalation before paramedics reached the scene. He was not seriously affected.
It is believed the cause of the fire was electrical.
Firefighters were also called to an incident in Marshall Avenue, Bewsey where vandals had set a wheelie bin on fire.
Anyone with information about the blaze should call police on 101 or the ananymous Crimstoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
