Help grow a stronger Warrington

RESIDENTS, businesses, partners, voluntary groups, faith groups, charities – everyone in the town is being asked to help grow a strong Warrington.
This is the latest message from Warrington Borough Council as it enters into the next period of budget setting for the town and launches a new webpage – Growing a Strong Warrington.
Town Hall chiefs say Warrington is entering into a new and exciting era, with a number of major regeneration projects and a strong local economy.
But, at the same time as great opportunities open up, there are some really difficult choices when it comes to the budget.
Visiting the Growing a Strong Warrington website will enable people to find out more about the budget and the challenges.
There is also a blog for people to post their ideas and suggestions.
Cllr Russ Bowden (pictured), the council’s lead member for corporate resources and assignment, said: “We are all proud of our town and want the very best, which is why we want to share our vision for growing a strong Warrington, promote a greater understanding of the challenges we face and come up with the best solutions for our town together.
“Due to reductions in government funding we are in a position where we need to continue to provide the services that people need but with less money.
“Since 2010, we have already cut £77 million from our budget and by 2017 we need to find another £31 million of savings. It’s not an easy position to be in and we are faced with many challenges, but we want to tackle this head on and come up with solutions that will help us all.
“We know that residents value our services and don’t want to see any of them go, or be reduced. We want you to know that we are doing everything that we can to protect our front-line services.
“But we have to be realistic and finding the next £31 million will mean
that we have some difficult choices to make.”
“We need to change the way we do things. We want to work more closely with residents, our partners and local businesses to get things right for the people who live here. We want to encourage lots of people to get involved and we want the ideas to come rolling in.
“I am more than happy to meet with residents and community groups to discuss their suggestions. I know about the great community work that goes on in our local areas. We can build on this success, so please come forward and help us grow a strong Warrington!”
