VANDALS have stolen £500 in cash and trashed Christmas preparations for

a war veterans charity based at a garden centre behind the Spirit Restaurant in Victoria Park.
Police are investigating the incident, which took place on Friday November 28, at MacIntyre New Routes’ hut.
The vandals used an angle grinder to cut through locks and the safe, and also smashed through food which had been brought in to help give veterans a memorable Christmas Day.
Mark Smith, the founder of the war veterans Blue Apple Heroes charity who share the site with MacIntyre, said “We cannot believe that some people would do this to our charities!
“It upsets me and is a shame. A lot of the people that we help don’t have much money and so what we were going to do would have been to give them something back.
“All the food has been smashed and so now we need to see if any supermarkets can help.”
The money stolen belonged to MacIntyre New routes which was established in 1966 by Kenneth Newton Wright. They are a leading national charity, highly respected and committed to setting standards and increasing choice.
They provide learning, support and care for more than 900 children and adults with learning disabilities, at more than 120 MacIntyre services centres across the UK.
Police have been to the scene and are currently investigating. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
