CULCHETH’S annual Victorian Day has been hailed as a resounding success, with visitors from across Warrington flocking to the village to enjoy the start of the festive celebrations.
Local shops and cafes carried on the Victorian theme with Mulled wine and roasted chestnuts were on sale on the shopping parade throughout the day.
The fair was a hit for younger visitors – the carousel was centre piece on Lodge Drive, whilst Sudden Impact entertained teenagers and adults alike on Jackson Avenue. Visitors were amused when local councillors Chris Vobe and Matt Smith joined youngsters on the popular ride for a white knuckle experience during the afternoon!
Local schools were championed through the Art and Creative Writing competitions. Winners from Newchurch Primary School and Culcheth Primary School had the chance to show off their creations to local MP Helen Jones who came to meet them in the Library, and had prizes presented to them by Cllr Smith.
Culcheth Methodist Church hosted a Christmas Fayre, Santa’s grotto (pictured right) and a carol service, and the Art Exhibiton in Jackson Avenue was highlighted as one of the most outstanding for many years.
The day finished as big crowds were then drawn to the Village Green where Parish Council Chairman Cllr Smith called on Father Christmas to help him switch on the village’s Christmas lights.
