Filling the looming digital skills gap

SPECIALIST courses designed to help fill the UK’s looming digital skills gap have been launched at Warrington.
The Warrington campus of Chester University is working with digital agency Blue Leaf and run the courses, tailored to meet the needs of employers
Courses are accredited by the Institute of Digital and Direct Marketing (IDM) with a number of postgraduate qualifications available, ranging from a Certificate in Digital Marketing to a Master’s programme.
The course is delivered in two-day intensive workshop sessions, so that it can be studied part time, while students are working and fits around employers’ needs. Full time options are also available.
A study by O2 last year suggested that around 745,000 more workers would be needed in the industry to meet demand by 2017, while the Science Council estimates that the ICT workforce will grow by 39 per cent by 2030.
Professor Lawrence Bellamy, Associate Dean of Warrington School of Management, said: “We are delighted to be offering a range of professional digital marketing courses that are so closely aligned to business needs.
“The programmes have been carefully developed to help employers close skills gaps and help professionals gain a practical qualification that will help them plan, manage and implement digital marketing campaigns. These courses also help Warrington School of Management develop a strong ‘digital hub’ for businesses in the local area.”
The next course intake is in January and more information can be found at http://www.chester.ac.uk/digital-marketing
