Warrington needs a pay rise

0

WARRINGTON workers now earn £161 less than they did in 2010, according to the union Unison.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the average annual wage for people living in Warrington is £22,340 compared to £22,501 in 2010.
The figures have not been adjusted for inflation – which means in real terms, workers have even less spending power.
Pat Barlow, Unison North West organiser, said: “Decent wages are crucial to individuals, households and the local economy.
“It is alarming that people in Warrington are now getting paid less than they were in 2010. Austerity is biting in the town, and people are struggling with falling living standards.
“I am worried that we may be in a downward spiral of falling wages, falling demand for local businesses’ goods and services, and then further downward pressure on wages.
“Warrington needs a pay rise to help people with the rising cost of living and to stimulate the local economy.”
