Two sent off as Town crash to defeat

WARRINGTON Town had two men sent off as they crashed to a disappointing

3-0 league defeat at Kendal as FA Cup hero Craig Robinson and striker

Ben Wharton were both shown straight reds.
Both players are now set to miss the FA Cup 2nd round match at Gateshead as they face automatic three match bans which come into force in a fortnight.
There was little to suggest the fireworks to follow in the opening quarter with neither side creating many chances and both keepers fairly inactive.
On 25 minutes Warrington had a big shout for a penalty turned down after a ball into the box by Skipper David Mannix clearly hit a a Kendal player on the hand but the referee waved the appeals away.
Then on 29 minutes Kendal had their first shot on goal which went over the bar.
Three minutes later the home side took the lead as Warrington lost possession in midfield and Jordan Connerton lashed the ball into the net to make it 1-0.
Then came a defining point in the game when Nathan Burke appeared to be elbowed in the face off the ball and had to be led from the field with blood pouring from a wound above his eye.
The injury was so severe he was unable to return and had to be replaced by substitute Steve Foster.
Warrington were clearly frustrated and Craig Robinson (pictured right) let the linesman know his views, resulting in a straight red. To rub salt in the wounds Kendal then went up field with Connerton adding his second on the stroke of half-time to make it 2-0.
To be fair to Warrington they started the second half brightly with Wharton having a header cleared off the line on 50 minutes.
Full-back Matt Dougherty was replaced by Louis Corrigan from the bench as Warrington pushed to get back into the game. On 60 minutes Karl Wills pulled off a fine save and then on 69 minutes Jay McCarten headed against the cross bar from a corner.
But things then went from bad to worse for Warrington as Ben Wharton slid in for a 50-50 tackle which the referee saw as dangerous play and brandished a red card for the second time.
Down to nine men and there was no way back for Town as Kendal made sure of the points with a third goal on 77 minutes through Craig Carney.
As well as the disappointment of defeat Warrington will now have to prepare for their FA Cup trip to Gateshead without the services of Robinson and Wharton.
