Carol service will honour the fallen

A CADET guard of honour will welcome the public to The Christmas Truce Carol Service at the Warrington Wolves’ Stadium on Sunday December 14 at 3pm.
Combining carol singing with First World War remembrance, wreaths will be laid on the pitch area for the fallen of Warrington, of the Warrington Rugby League club, and those of German twin town Hilden.
Held at the Halliwell Jones Stadium (entrance Gate A) – and following a similar service last year which attracted 1,200 – the free event is open to all, though a collection will be taken for military and reconciliation charities.
The Lancashire Artillery Band will lead the carol singing, with the Warrington Male Voice Choir and others leading items. Dance and dramatic representation of the famous 1914 Christmas truce football match will also feature.
It is expected that civic and community leaders will be present along with the Burgermeister of Hilden.
Faith leaders and the Wolves’ Charitable Foundation have been
planning this event for some months with much co-operation from a range of partners in the community including Warrington Borough Council and the Cheshire Army Cadet Force.
Rev Stephen Kingsnorth, of Warrington Borough Ministry said: “Folk should come wrapped up warm for what we trust will be a moving occasion
as we all pay our respects and sing Silent Night and other popular carols.
“This event will provide an opportunity for remembrance for the borough and its community, the military, the rugby and football fan, the carol singer and the faith communities.”
