A BY-ELECTION is to be held for a vacant seat on Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council following the resignation of Labour member David Robb.
Labour and Conservative will contest the vacancy for the Glazebury and Mee Brow ward and the poll will take place on Thursday, December 11.
Polls will be open between 7am and 10pm.
Mr Robb was co-opted to the council in February.
Labour candidate will be Joan Grime, a former further education tutor who lives in the village with her family.
Married with three grown-up children, she was deputy head of mathematics at Winstanley College.
She said: “I would be delighted to represent the people of Glazebury, Mee Brow and Fowley Common on the parish council.
“I’m standing for the Parish Council because I want to make sure that the voices of people here are heard.”
She has already launched a “Five Point Plan” for Glazebury and Mee Brow, which is being delivered to every household and sets out her commitments to local people – including a pledge to tackle speeding traffic problems, improve facilities for young people on Mee Brow, and protect the Green
Belt boundary in the village.
Conservative candidate will be Sue Bland, a borough councillor for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft and a former long-standing member of the parish council.
She has been a member of the borough council since 2000 and is a member of Culcheth Youth Centre management body and the Culcheth Centre management committee as well as Warrington and district Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Polling stations will be located at Glazebury Scout Hut (for residents of Glazebury village) and at a mobile unit on Churchill Avenue (for residents of Mee Brow and Fowley Common).
