Women's working4change success

A GROUP of 10 women from across Warrington have successfully completed “Working4Change” – Golden Gates Housing Trust’s latest pre-employment project.
Delivered over five weeks, the project provided a safe environment for the women to support one another in improving their lives and accessing sustainable employment or volunteering opportunities.
Working4Change gave the group the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications and confidence boosting skills.
The project is part of GGHT’s on-going commitment to help residents who face barriers to employment.
It offered a range of courses for free including basic food hygiene certificate and an employability skills level 1 certificate. The attendees were also assisted in producing a professional CV, interview preparation and job application support.
Feedback from the women who completed the course has been excellent and over the coming months the Trust will be delivering three more courses as they aim to support 40 local women through the project.
There has already been one successful outcome from the project with one woman managing to secure a job interview through the help and support of the project.
Several attendees are also moving onto a volunteering course supported by GGHT and run by Warrington Youth Club.
Michelle Griffiths who attended the course said: “The course has been brilliant and has really boosted my self-confidence. I now feel more confident when looking for work and training. I am moving onto another course to further increase my skills.”
GGHT employment initiatives manager Tracey Walsh said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer this project to residents. It really is helping to boost attendee’s confidence and employability skills when they are looking for work.”
Anyone who lives in one of the Trust’s properties and would like additional support getting into employment, training or volunteering can register on Positive Change. The programme has already helped more than 300 local people into work over the last 18 months. They receive priority access to employment opportunities working with GGHT, their suppliers and other local organisations who sign up for free recruitment support or to receive the Trust’s wage incentive scheme.
