AFTER capturing the hearts of the nation with their thrilling “Giant killing” F.A Cup exploits, Warrington Town are set to feature as a live TV game again when they travel up to Gateshead in the second Round of the F.A Cup, on Sunday December 7.
As the lowest ranked club left in the competition Warrington will again be huge underdogs after being paired against high-flying Gateshead, who are currently third in the conference and made the play-off finals at Wembley last season.
But after their cup heroics over League Two Exeter City, Town manager Shaun Reid (pictured right) says the game holds no fear.
“Football is well and truly on the map in Warrington now and the support from the town has been amazing.
“The support last night was fantastic and hopefully we will take a large following up to Gateshead to cheer the team on. The crowd provide the twelfth man and really lift the boys.”
The club’s amazing FA Cup journey so far has covered five qualifying rounds, including two replays, followed by the First Round Proper victory over Exeter.
As well as putting football on the map in Warrington – it has provided a huge financial boost to the club, in excess of six figures, with another big pay day to come.
A capacity 2,500 crowd packed in to the Winner Recruitment Stadium for the first round game, with tickets selling out in less than three hours and last night a crowd of nearly 400 turned up to watch a much changed team bow out of the Cheshire Cup 1-0 to Stockport County – a game which would usually struggle to attract three figure gate.
The game will be broadcast live on BT Sport at 12 noon on Sunday December 7.
