Teenage star will headline festive lights

TEENAGE singing star Zoe Unsworth is to headline the entertainment at the Christmas Light Spectacular at Warrington’s Golden Square Shopping Centre.
Zoe aged 15, has been singing almost since she first learned to talk and began performing on stage when she was only 11.
Now the schoolgirl, from neighbouring Leigh, is aiming for a place at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) to study musical theatre.
She is regularly performing at big events whether it’s packed rugby stadiums or charity fundraising dinners.
Zoe said: “I always look forward to show-stopping events and I think the audience at Golden Square is going to be big. It’s always exciting to sing at events like the switching on of the Christmas lights. It’s always a great night.
“It’s all good experience for me. The plan is to go to LIPA and do well and then my ambition is to make it in the West End. I’d love to play the role of Fantine in Les Mis. That would be fantastic and mean my dreams had all come true.”
Zoe, who attends Bedford High School, Leigh, admits she prefers musical theatre and singing songs from the shows but she does like pop songs too.
She said: “I play the piano and guitar and like to write my own songs, which I have performed at some events. At the moment I like Jessie J in particular, especially her latest song, Bang Bang.
“But I will sing just about anything I can, it’s just that I prefer songs from the shows to anything else. I will be singing two or three songs at the Golden Square Christmas lights switch on and can’t wait.”
Ian Cox, Golden Square director, said: “The Christmas lights switch on is
always a huge event in our calendar. I’m pleased Zoe has agreed to perform during the evening. There is little doubt she is a big talent and is a young performer that’s going places.”
In addition to Zoe, stars from the hit Nick Jr TV show Go! Go! Go! and the hugely popular, tiny dancers who went down a storm in Britain’s Got Talent – Pre-Skool will also be performing.
There will also be appearances from Captain Barnacles and Kwazii from the Octonauts, a breath-taking aerial hoop act and a visit from actors involved in this year’s pantomime at the Parr Hall, Snow White.
The Christmas Light Switch On will take place in Old Market Square in Golden Square at 6 pm on Friday. For more information go to
