CONFERENCE side Gateshead stand in the way of Warrington Town and a place in the FA Cup third round, and a potential tie against Premier League opposition.
Following Friday night’s remarkable 1-0 win over League Two side Exeter City, Shaun Reid’s men have been paired with the north east club, who were beaten in last season’s Conference play-off final at Wembley.
Warrington have already beaten four teams from leagues above them this season to get to the second round, involving eight games over six rounds, including two replays.
While not the glamour game most of the Warrington players wanted against league opposition, club Captain David Mannix, is confident that the game is winnable thanks to the amazing team spirit in the Warrington camp.
He hopes Warrington will take a large following for an away day in the North East to cheer on the team.
Manager Shaun Reid said: “Gateshead are doing very well in the Conference. It will be a difficult tie but it is the cup and eleven men against eleven men. We won’t go there with any fear. The F.A Cup seems to bring out the best in my players.
“I’ve got plenty of people in football who can help us scout – I’ll call in a few favours. They will find it more difficult to find out about us – I can change the team a lot.”
But before then it is a return to bread and butter action as Warrington entertain Stockport County in the Cheshire Senior Cup tomorrow (Tuesday) kick off 7.45pm followed by an away day to Kendal for an important league game on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
