MP offers support to shopworkers

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is once again supporting “Respect for Shopworkers” week.
The MP always back the campaign run by the shopworkers union, Usdaw, which aims to highlight the abuse their members face at work.
She said: “A shopworker is attacked or verbally abused every minute of the working day according to the British Retail Consortium Crime Survey.
“This cannot be tolerated.
“Being subject to abuse is not part of their job description and I am more than happy to support USDAW’s call for legislation that aims to provide stiffer sentences for those found guilty of assaulting shopworkers.
“ It is also the case that many shopworkers do not report incidents of abuse to their employers. Surveys show that many shopworkers believe abuse is just part of the job.
“That is simply not the case and Respect for Shopworkers week is designed to highlight the fact that this abuse is unacceptable and people subject to it should ensure they report all incidents to their employers.”
