Remembrance Sunday service

WARRINGTON’S annual Service of Remembrance takes place on Sunday at 11am at the Cenotaph on Bridge Foot, commemorating the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
The event will start with a procession from the Town Hall at 10.15am which will arrive at the Cenotaph no later than 10.30an
Members of the publish who wish to place wreaths around the memorial at 10.45am and the Last Post will be sounded at 10.59, after which two minutes silence will be observed.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the borough council and chairman of the Armed forces/ World War 1 commemoration task group, said: “Remembrance Sunday is an important date in the calendar but we know that events to remember the sacrifice made in WW1 and other wars has been given particular significance this year at the start of the four-year
remembrance period.
“Improvements have already been made to the Cenotaph ready for this day, for example to the flower beds and surrounding area, and more have been announced including two benches being fitted and further clean-up works.
“Also in Warrington we have been responding to requests from local organisations to support their WW1 events and tributes and have already awarded over £3,000 in grants to help fund some community events.”
