INTEREST in Warrington Town’s historic FA Cup match with Exeter City is reaching fever pitch, with tickets for the 2,500 sell out game being likened to “Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket” and a special commemorative shirt being made to mark the occasion.
The team will be proudly wearing a commemorative kit, featuring a special FA Cup 1st Round V Exeter City badge and the players names proudly displayed on the back of the shirts – another first for the club. The kit has kindly been supplied by SK Kits and features the club’s sponsors, Winner Recruitment, Enterprise Software and and Peak Associates.
A limited number of replica shirts will be on sale at the game.
Manager Shaun Reid, who says the historic tie “holds no fear” has been conducting in excess of 20 media interviews a day for TV, radio, national and regional press.
“This is a great day for Warrington Town Football Club, the supporters, the directors, the players, the coaching staff and everyone who has been involved.
“It is not every day a player gets a chance to create history so they will not need any motivation. Their motivation is that this a great chance to create history again.”
Tickets sold out in less than three hours of going on sale on Monday, with football fans from around the town clamouring for tickets. One elated supporter tweeted that getting his ticket was like getting “Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket.”
The club is still waiting to hear from Exeter if there will be any returns from their 375 allocation.
To help cope with the number of fans visiting the ground and to help ease traffic congestion, a special park and ride is being set up from Priestley College, using Network Warrington buses. More details to be released soon.
