Women work for free for 57 days

NEW analysis of official figures shows women in Warrington are being paid nearly 17.6 per cent less than men for each hour they work.
The figures from the ONS annual survey of hours and earnings have been analysed by Labour Party chiefs – and come as Equal Pay Day – the day that women across the UK effectively start working for free due to the gender pay gap – comes three days earlier this year because the pay gap is back on the rise.
That means women will effectively work for free for the next 57 days, according to Warrington South Parliamentary candidate Nick Bent (pictured).
In 2013 Equal Pay Day fell on November 7, however this year it’s three days earlier because of a rise in the gender pay gap.
A Labour Government would ask big companies with more than 250 staff in Warrington to publish their average hourly pay gap each year to expose whether men and women are being paid differently for doing the same work, and whether too few women occupy senior positions, says Mr Bent.
He said: “Low pay and insecure jobs are a huge problem for too many women and men in Warrington but these shocking figures show the full extent of the gap in pay between men and women.
“This is unfair to women, and to their partners and children, and we need to bring their wages up to parity with men.”
