A former headteacher from Warrington has been sentenced to the maximum sentence of six years in prison for sexual abuse offences dating back to the 1970s.
Kenneth Savage, 66, (pictured) was given the sentence of six years among various other concurrent setences for 29 counts of indecent assault and indecency with a child, and one count of attempted buggery. The offences relate to four victims aged between seven and 15 at the time.
Savage carried out the majority of his offences at the school he taught at in the 1970s. The court also heard how he preyed on his victims by driving them to isolated locations in the Warrington area.
He pleaded guilty to all charges on September 29 and was bailed until sentencing today, (Monday).
Detective Constable Jackie Daniels, said: “Savage preyed on his young victims when they were in his duty of care. He was in a position of trust which he abused for his own advantage and has affected the victims for the rest of their lives.
“We recognize the courage of the four victims coming forward and recounting their experience. Hopefully today?s sentencing will allow them some closure knowing that Savage has been brought to justice for his crimes.
“What this case also highlights is that no matter when such offences took place, we have specialist officers in place to investigate all reports we receive. I would like to urge any victims who have experienced abuse in the past to come forward and speak to us.
“This case has seen Savage brought to justice for a crime he would have potentially got away with if not for the courage of the victims. Cheshire Police along with the help of victims will bring the people who commit such terrible crimes to justice.”
