Council ready to tackle climate change

WARRINGTON Borough Council has declared itself ready to tackle the causes and effects of a changing climate – and wants other organisations to do the same.
The Warrington declaration gives businesses and other organisations the opportunity to show they are committed to reducing their environmental impact and want to improve their resilience to extreme weather.
Signing the declaration gives them access to a network of organisations leading the way on sustainability and the opportunity to learn and share best practise.
The declaration was launched at Warrington Town Hall and was used as a networking opportunity for the first signatories to learn from each other.
They were Culture Warrington, Livewire, Peak Associates, Low Carbon Lymm,
Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Warrington Community Living, Philips Lighting, Steria, Bents Garden Centre and Atkins
Cllr Linda Dirir (picture), the council’s lead member for highways, transportation and climate change came up with the idea for the declaration.
She said: “Climate change affects everyone and we can all play our part. Local authority, business and community leadership, and individual action will be essential to success. We will make better progress if we work together.
“By having a Warrington declaration it is a way of bringing together the different organisations in our area. We want organisations to sign up whether you are just starting your sustainability journey or you have loads of green credentials. Joining the declaration helps you to show others that you are committed to the agenda.”
