TEN large skips and tipper trucks were filled to the brim when residents of the Whitecross area of Warrington set to with a clean up of their area.
Residents, local councillors and staff from Warrington Borough Council and Golden Gates Housing Trust were involved in the operation.
A large amount of fly tipping, weeds and litter was cleared as the group cleaned up the streets and alleyways in the area.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “The group was delighted with the number of people who turned up to help out and this really was a huge community effort. The day was led by local volunteers who have grown tired of the small minority of people who do not look after our streets.”
Cllr Pat Wright, lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “Everyone is keen to ensure this area stays clean and the group will continue to meet to consider ways to take action against offenders and this is completely supported by the council.
“We don’t want to see this brilliant effort go in vain and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against those who fly tip and drop litter.”
Golden Gates Housing chairman Roy Smith said: “We would like to thank all of the residents who volunteered for their hard work during the day. It is through projects like this that we hope to make a real difference in the area and to improve the quality of life of all its residents.”
