WARRINGTON Wolves have signed promising young forwards Pat Moran and George Shaw into the club’s Under 19s Academy.
Both players have come through the club’s scholarship and academy programme over the last two years. Moran, 16, played his amateur rugby at Wigan St Judes and Shaw, 17, for Chester Gladiators. Both have aspirations to represent the club at first-grade and secure a regular place in the side. In addition Shaw played for Wales’ U16s earlier in the year.
Head of talent ID and junior pastoral care Peter Farrell said: “Both lads have excelled in both their playing ability and their attitude and commitment, especially in the way they have contributed to help mentor the younger age group of players.
“Pat comes from a family background steeped in sport, both in this country and Ireland. He is a prop forward who is blessed with skills you rarely see in someone so young. He has tremendous work rate and is part of the new breed of prop forwards big and lean with a great off load.
“George initially came from a Rugby Union background, however has adapted to Rugby League extremely well. He is a very versatile player playing in both the backs at centre and everywhere in the pack except hooker. He recently represented is home country Wales. He is an uncompromising type of player who excels in the physical side of the game. Like Pat he has fantastic work rate and is a go-to player when the team is looking for the hard yards.
“The club would like to welcome both players on board and wish them every success in the future, as part of a growing youth system that bodes well in underpinning the club’s future success.”
