WARRINGTON toddler Tyler Davies will be wearing a firefighters outfit when he takes part in St Rocco’s first ever sponsored Children’s Lantern Walk.
The 17-month-old from Latchford, will be walking one mile in memory of his grandad Alan Brent, who was a firefighter at Warrington Fire Station. Alan worked at the fire station until a few months before he passed away 10 years ago.
Alan will always be remembered fondly by many friends throughout the Service, so to help young Tyler on his way he was invited along to Warrington Fire Station to the meet the crew and have a look at the fire engine.
His mum Sara Davies, who lives in Latchford, went along with him. She said: “The firefighters made a real fuss of him and gave him my dad’s old belt, which they had put a toy axe in, so that he can wear it on the walk.
“My dad attended St Rocco’s and although Tyler never met him we thought it would be a great way to raise money for the charity in his memory. I was over the moon during our visit to the fire station and seeing Tyler sat in the fire engine.”
The walk starts at 6pm at Orford Jubilee Hub and is an exciting new event which is designed to be push-chair and wheelchair friendly, so that everyone can take part in the enchanting sponsored walk.
Firefighter Damon Leonard said: “Tyler’s grandad was a great person to work with and a good friend of mine, so I am more than happy to help him along his way. This is a great idea for an event and we are hoping to be there to cheer Tyler and the other children on over the finish line.”
Children will receive a FREE lantern which is hand held and battery operated to create a wave of twinkling lights as they walk through the park. As well as this they will also receive a special medal for taking part.
