Police warn over lorry thefts

A SPATE of commercial vehicle thefts in the Warrington area is worrying police.
Vehicle operators are being asked to be vigilant and ensure they secure all vehicles when left parked and unattended.
Criminals are not only targeting the contents of the vehicles, but often also stealing the vehicle itself.
Crime reduction officer Lynn Parr said: “We are asking van owners and drivers to be extra vigilant and to ensure that vehicles are secure at all times.
“Even with vehicle trackers fitted it is still worth using more visible deterrents such as steering wheel or handbrake locks to deter any criminals from targeting your vehicle.
“There are also devices called OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) protectors which can prevent thieves from accessing the vehicles computer systems.”
Anyone who notices anything suspicious around parked vehicles or who has information which might help police is asked to call them on 101 or
Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
