A WARRINGTON woman who falsely obtained £23,219 benefit has been given a suspended prison sentence – and ordered to repay the money.
Zoe Adderley, aged 32, of Livingstone Close, Old Hall was also ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
She was given a nine month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
Adderley pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court to three offences of benefit fraud.
The court was told the woman was claiming benefits and failed to inform either the borough council or the Department of Work and Pensions {DWP} that she was living with a partner who was in full time employment.
She falsely claimed £14,135 housing benefit and £1,663 council tax benefit and council tax support from the council and £7,421 income support from the DWP.
After the hearing, Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits and exchequer services manager, said: “Every day in the UK over 200 benefit thieves are caught – the clear message is – if you commit benefit fraud you will be caught.”
Anyone who suspects someone is fraudulently claiming benefits to which they are not entitled is asked to call the council’s confidential benefit fraud hotline on 442282/442283 or email [email protected]
