Remembrance festival gets support

A special evening being staged by Warrington Male Voice Choir and the British Legion to mark the centenary of World War 1, remember and honour those who lost their lives in the Great War and in other conflicts and to raise funds for two worthy causes, has been given a financial boost.
Warrington based EMR, and a global leader in metal recycling, has donated £500 towards the staging of the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 1 at Warrington’s Parr Hall.
In addition, an application by the choir to Warrington Borough Council for a World War 1 Commemorations Grant of £500 has also been approved.
EMR Marketing Assistant Rachel Lewis said: “EMR are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile and special evening. As well as uniting the community, this event is a fantastic opportunity to honour past and present military personnel while raising vital funds to support their families”.
Warrington Borough Council, Deputy Leader Cllr. Mike Hannon said: “Being able to support community events marking the centenary of the First World War is important to us. They are all part of the extensive calendar of events and activities that are being held over the next four years and the Festival of Remembrance promises to be a great night!”
Bob Williams Chairman of Warrington Male Voice Choir said, “Both the Choir and Royal British Legion are very grateful for the financial support we’ve received from EMR and the Council. We are determined in this Centenary year, and with the help of a large audience on the night – including The Mayor of Warrington Cllr. Ted Finnegan, to raise as much money as we can for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2014 and the Choir’s 2014 charity, Fisher House and these contributions will help offset some of our staging costs.
The evening, starting at 7.30pm, and in what is understood to be a first for Warrington, will feature performances from Warrington Male Voice Choir and The Combined Bands of The Lancashire Artillery Band and The Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, audience singing of songs from the First World War, a reading by the Choir’s Patron, Terry Waite CBE and a Service of Remembrance and Reflection led by Reverend Stephen Kingsnorth.
Tickets are £10 (Under 16s – £5) and can be bought by ringing 01925 442345, visiting www.pyramidparrhall.com or www.ticketmaster.com or in person from the Pyramid/Parr Hall ticket office.
