NEWLY recruited Junior Safety Officers from 35 primary schools are now busy promoting important messages and competing for the star prize.
The council, Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire and Rescue launched their second junior safety officer scheme at Warrington Town Hall.
The Junior Safety Officers were presented with certificates, a Junior Safety Officer pack, and their badges of honour.
As part of the scheme, the officers are now tasked with promoting positive messages about personal safety, road safety fire safety and community safety during the school year.
They are encouraged to display information on notice boards, come up with ideas to promote the messages and keep a record of all their work.
At the end of the year, two officers are then chosen to receive an award for their hard work and commitment with last year’s winners being Bethan Jones and Adam Humphries from Callands Community Primary School.
Cllr Linda Dirir, executive board member for highways transportation and climate change, said: “The scheme is designed to increase safety awareness among school children and to help them take responsibility for keeping themselves and each other safe.
“The messages that the scheme supports enforces existing messages currently delivered by Road Safety Officers, Police Community Support Officers, and Fire and Rescue Advocates.
“I am really pleased that more young people have come forward again to be Junior Safety officers and be a role model for their peers we are hoping for the same if not more success this year.”
The attendees included Beverley Mercer and Melanie McHale from the council’s road safety team, Frances Egerton Cheshire Fire & Rescue Road Safety Officer, Jenny Ford Community Engagement Manager and Liz Stanton Safer Schools and Young Persons Officer from Cheshire Police.
