WARRINGTON Wolves’ fan Simon Rustage is celebrating 15 years of good fortune today after scooping the top prize on the National Lottery Mega Rich Scratchcard – of £250,000 a year for the next 15 years!
Despite his new found riches Simon, aged 47, who was presented with his prize at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, plans to continue working as a stock handler.
He has, however, already started to draw up his shopping list and says a new car and a season ticket for Warrington Wolves – his favourite Rugby League team – are top priorities.
Simon, who bought the Scratchcard on his way home from visiting his father at the weekend from Bridge Lane Stores in Appleton, said: “I just bought it and then didn’t really think – I scratched it immediately in the store.
“I actually couldn’t believe what I was seeing and I had to pass it to the shop assistant who confirmed I had won £250,000. I was absolutely delighted – things like this just don’t happen to people like me.”
And Simon said it was a day later when he called Camelot that he discovered he hadn’t just won £250,000 – he had infact won £250,000 every year for the next 15 years.
He added: “It is absolutely unbelievable. This is just the best prize ever. It is like having a job with a £250,000 salary but not actually going into work.
“I am going to take my time over what I do and how I spend the money. I certainly have no plans to give up work at the present time.
“It is such a lovely way to receive the money – it provides me with security and reassurance.”
This is the second piece of National Lottery luck to strike at Simon’s workplace, Norbert Dentressangle, in Warrington, this year.
In January a syndicate of workers and former workers scooped a £1.7m Lotto Jackpot.
But it was six weeks before the Part Timers, also keen Warrington Wolves fans, discovered their good fortune after forgetting to check their ticket.
