Refrigeration plant makes life absolute hell

NOISE and vibrations from a new refrigeration plant in a foodstore are making life “absolute hell” for people living in the house next door, planning chiefs at Warrington have been told.
Sleepless nights were affecting their health and the house was literally shaking because of vibrations from the plant.
Recordings made in the house next to the Co-operative store in Knutsford Road, Grappenhall were played at a meeting of the borough council’s planning committee.
Local councillor Mike Biggin (pictured) told the meeting: “The residents were literally in tears when they were telling me about their situation.
“They have made 200 complaints to the store but nothing has been done.”
Co-operative Estates were making a retrospective application for permission to install the new plant and acoustic screening.
Officers recommended the plan be approved, subject to conditions. But the committee deferred a decision to give the company time to reduce noise and vibration levels.
Members said they would visit the house before considering the application again to make sure the necessary improvements had been made.
Cllr Biggin said: “This machine is operating 24/7 and the noise reverberates throughout their house. No only noise but vibration…continuously.
“They have complained twice weekly for a year and I have arranged a meeting with areas managers to resolve the situation but nothing has been done. They are flying in the face of their professed intention of being good neighbours and a caring, community organisation.
“But I feel the welfare of the neighbours is paramount.”
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt said the noise was making life “an absolute hell” for the neighbours who were suffering from lack of sleep. The recording made in their home illustrated the extent of the problem but the Co-op had totally disregarded their complaints.
The meeting was told the company were to install additional acoustic screening which should reduce the problem to an acceptable level.
Councillors will consider the application again at their next meeting.
