New Ford Mondeo comes packed with technology
FORD has started
lifting the lid on the new Ford Mondeo! It hashost of technology
features making the Ford a safer company car proposition.
Here are some of the technical details for the long-overdue next-generation European Mondeo
• Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection
• Lightweight construction methods
• Low emission engines including 1.0T ECOnetic
• Hybrid engine with CO2 emissions of 99g/km
• 1.6 diesel with CO2 emissions of 94g/km
One big highlight of what will be a significant company car is Ford’s new Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system.
This
is standard on every new Ford Mondeo and can decrease the severity of
collisions involving pedestrians or help drivers avoid an accident
altogether. The radar- and camera-equipped system draws upon a
“pedestrian shapes” database to tell apart people from roadside objects
Another
significant feature – the use of advanced materials and production
techniques in the interests of strength, safety and sustainability.
The
new Ford Mondeo is the first car to use hydro-formed high-strength
steel for its A-pillars, B-pillars, and roof rails, while a new
magnesium inner tailgate weighs only about half as much as a steel
equivalent. Overall, the Mondeo’s body structure is 61 per cent
high-strength steel. Sill panels made of martensitic boron steel help to
improve side impact protection. Recycled plastics are used in the front
bumper.
There’s also quite a lot of change under the bonnet compared with the out-going Mondeo.
