Neighbours lose planning battle

NEIGHBOURS have failed in a bid to block planning consent for a detached house at Penketh, Warrington.
The scheme in Chapel Road was also opposed by Penketh Parish Council and by local councillor David Keane.
But members of the borough council’s develop0ment management committee decided the plan could go ahead after hearing from officers that the site was in an established residential area and was of sufficient size to accommodate one house without significantly affecting adjacent houses.
Six neighbours lodged objections on various grounds including loss of privacy, loss of trees and impact on wildlife, adverse impact on the setting of a locally listed cottage, inappropriate height and scale, inadequate parking, loss of green space, etc.
Cllr Keane argued that the proposal would have an adverse impact on the street scene and would be out of character with surrounding properties, particularly the neighbouring historic cottage.
He felt the development would cause detriment to the quality of life neighbours.
Members of the committee visited the site before reaching their decision.
