NEW electronic warning signs have been installed at a notorious Warrington flood hazard.
The signs will be activated if the road under the railway bridge at Hawleys Lane is flooded – giving drivers the chance to find another route.
Flooding under the bridge has been a problem for many years.
It occurs in periods of heavy rainfall and effectively closes the road to vehicles and also makes it difficult for pedestrians to pass through safely.
The new signs have been erected on Folly Lane, near the junction of Longshaw Street and in Hawleys Lane itself.
Although recent improvements to the drainage system in the area have reduced the risk of flooding, the new signage will beneficial in reducing traffic problems in the area by warning motorists in advance.
Cllr Linda Dirir, the council’s lead member for highways said: “As a council we are always on the look-out for ways in which we can improve the service that we provide.
“The new signage on Hawleys Lane will mean that drivers and pedestrians will be warned of the flooding in much more time in order for them to avoid having to turn around and remain safe.”
