Time to book the 'flu jab

PEOPLE eligible for the ‘flu vaccine, should not put off getting it.
That’s the latest message from Warrington Borough Council as it supports the NHS ‘Flu campaign.
A campaign has already started to encourage those eligible for a free ‘flu jab to take up the offer.
Those who have long-term health conditions and those who are pregnant are at greater risk of developing complications as a result of ‘flu and are entitled to a free jab.
Children aged 2-4 and all over 65s can also get the jab for free.
‘Flu is a highly infectious disease with symptoms that come on very suddenly.
Healthy individuals usually recover in two to seven days but for some, the disease can lead to spells in hospital, permanent disability or even death.
Cllr Pat Wright, the council’s lead member for health, said: “We are supporting this national drive and want to target the groups that are entitled to a free vaccination to make sure they get it as soon as possible – it is free because they need it.
“A nasal spray vaccination is a quick, painless and effective way for children aged 2-4 to be protected from flu without the need for injections.”
Dr Dan Bunstone, Warrington CCG’s clinical lead for long term conditions, said: “For most people, ‘flu means a very unpleasant week, disrupting their work and social life and making it much harder to deal with daily life. That’s bad enough, but older people, the very young, pregnant women and those with underlying diseases are at particular risk of severe illness if they catch ‘flu. Antibiotics will not treat the flu, so your only protection is the jab.”
Free ‘flu vaccinations are available through GPs.
