A BUILDING on a business centre at Warrington will have to be demolished following an arson attack, it was revealed today.
The blaze was at about 4am on Saturday October 4 at the Haydock Street Business Centre, off Winwick Road.
Fire and police went to the scene and the blaze was extinguished.
A police spokesman said today: “Following a joint investigation into the cause of the blaze it is believed that entry was gained by force to the rear of the building, and as such police are treating the incident as arson.
DC Simon Fisher from Warrington CID said: “The building was left in a bad condition as a result of the fire and is going to have to be demolished.
“I want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious, particularly a man seen walking near the rear of the premises on John Street at 2.46am, and a taxi driver who was seen to turn his taxi around at the rear of the premises at 4am. They may be key witnesses to the incident.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service delivery manager for Warrington, Sean Henshaw said: “This incident initially required six fire engines as well as the aerial appliance to bring it under control.
“We were at the scene for a total of 12 hours making sure the fire was fully extinguished and area safe, which is a big pull on our resources.
“Arson is such a dangerous and wreckless act, it puts the safety of the public and our firefighters in danger and I would urge anyone who may have any information about who is responsible to contact police.”
Anyone who may have any information about the fire is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
