POLICE at Warrington are appealing for help from the public in the search for an Asian man purporting to be a taxi driver who is alleged to have carried out a sex attack on an 18-year-old girl.
The assault took place in the taxi in the Bewsey area at about 5.30am on Saturday, October 4.
Police said today that the girl and two friends were picked up by a taxi outside the NatWest Bank in Warrington town centre.
The driver told the girl she would need to travel in the front seat with him while her friends sat in the back.
During the journey to a friend’s house in the Bewsey area, the driver asked the girl if he could go into the house. He was told no.
The driver was allegedly suggestive in his behaviour during the journey and when they arrived at the address the girl was momentarily alone in the taxi with the man while her friends went into the house.
It was at this point the alleged sexually assault took place.
The girl left the car, told her friends what had happened and the police were called.
The driver was described as an Asian man, about 35 years old and around 5ft 6 inches tall. He was of slim build with short dark hair and a trimmed goatee beard and wearing dark clothing.
Police said the car was white, a possibly a Peugot.
