POLICE have issued two CCTV pictures of a man they want to trace in connection with the theft of a bag from a train at Warrington.
The bag was stolen on Wednesday, August 13, from the luggage racks of the 12.51pm Edinburgh Waverly to Birmingham New Street service, while it was at Warrington Bank Quay station.
PC Dan Armstrong, leading the investigation, said: “The victim – a 21-year-old woman from Chester – boarded the train at Edinburgh Waverly and placed her large suitcase in the racks at the end of coach F.
“As the train left Warrington Bank Quay, the woman went to check on her luggage and noticed it was gone.
“The suitcase contained a high-value laptop and months of irreplaceable university coursework, with which the victim is understandably very keen to be reunited.”
On arrival at Crewe railway station, the woman reported the theft to a police officer.
A review of the train’s on-board CCTV footage has led to the release of a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.
PC Armstrong added: “Who is the man in the distinctive branded t-shirt? I am very keen to speak with him, as I believe he might have important information about what happened to the suitcase.
“He boarded the train at Wigan North Western and may live or have connections in the local area. If you know him, or have any other information about what happened, please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016,
