HOUSING staff at Warrington are celebrating after successfully crossing the finishing line in a 100-day Global Corporate Challenge.
A total of 98 staff at Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) joined the global movement of almost 300,000 from 185 countries when they took their place on the starting line in May.
The aim was to boost the 3,000 average daily step count of a typical office worker to lead towards a healthier life style.
And they did just that – increasing their daily step count to an average of 14,258.
The Trust supported their staff in implementing the small changes that make a big difference to their health and performance over the course of the 100-day challenge.
In teams of seven, GGHT employees harnessed the competition, commitment and camaraderie of team work to clock up 52,880 miles in a virtual journey around the world.
Collectively they clocked up 132,973,069 steps – the equivalent of burning off 21,377 slices of cake.
GGHT team, “Living Dangerously” took top honours as the company’s Most Active team, ranking 1,796 on the Global Corporate Challenge world leader board – no mean feat given that 40,768 teams were in the running.
Their daily step average was also impressive, clocking in at 19,501 – equivalent to 9.5 miles every day.
Another GGHT team, “Can’t Do it, Won’t Do It” made some serious changes to their lifestyle and routine, topping the chart as the most improved team for GGHT.
Team captain Darren McLoughlin said: “I tried to ensure the team not only beat the daily step average but also exceeded it. We have now been inspired by our improved fitness to attempt to complete the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in aid of GGHT’s corporate charity, St Rocco’s Hospice.”
GGHT chief executive Peter Mercer said: “We are so proud of our employees’ achievements and will support them in every step of their continued journey towards healthier, happier and more active lives.
“Our hope is that the GCC finish line is just the start of a new beginning for our employees who now feel re-energised and empowered to continue their journey to better health long-term.”
