NURSES, volunteers and even whole ward teams were amongst the winners in Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s annual staff Thank You awards.
This was the sixth year the hospitals have run the awards and over 150 nominations were received from patients, families and staff members where individuals and teams have gone above and beyond in their work to support patients.
Ward C22 at Warrington won the excellence in patient care award for improvements they’ve made in gastroenterology care, and a further star of the future award went to their acting ward manager Carol McEvoy. Lee Bushell from the hospital estates team won the supporting excellence award for his work in developing the new Forget Me Not dementia ward at the hospital.
Acute care practitioner Jan Green, who has developed a campaign to ensure good hydration of patients, took the excellence in innovation, improvement and efficiency award. The trust’s deputy director of nursing Alison Lynch won nursing hero for her nursing leadership role.
Volunteers of the year were the team from the Macmillan Delamere Unit at Halton General Hospital who provide advice, support and complementary therapies to over 6,000 people from across Warrington and Halton.
Employee of the year went to Michelle Beavan, a staff nurse on Ward A9 who has pioneered better dementia care for patients. The dementia theme continued in the team of the year where the clinical leadership team of doctors and nurses from the new Forget Me Not dementia ward won.
The trust also celebrated the achievements of staff who had reached 30, 35 or 40 years unbroken service with the hospitals. There were over 30 staff reaching those milestones this year.
Mel Pickup, chief executive of Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It’s important that we say thank you to our staff and these awards allow patients, relatives and colleagues to do that. The winners were of the highest calibre and really showcase what the hospitals have achieved over the last year.”
If you want to nominate a staff member in the hospitals who has given great care you can put them forward at any time of the year for the trust’s monthly employee and team of the month awards by emailing some information on your nominee to [email protected] – just give the hospitals as much information as you have.
