A KARATE club based at Great Sankey Leisure Centre is celebrating after success in European competition.
Seishin-do Shukokai Karate, run by Steve Nelson, picked up medals at the WUKF (World Union of Karate-do Federations) European Championships in Sheffield in 2013 and followed that up with further success in Verona in the summer.
Joanne Phelan was champion in the Junior Ladies Kata in Sheffield, and followed that up by narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in his first competition as a senior in Verona.
Annabel Mooney picked up a silver medal in the 10-12 girls kata at both events, while Rebecca Dawson finished fifth in the Junior Ladies Kata in Sheffield.
The club will be hoping for further success when four girls compete in the WUKF Children’s World Championships in Poland on October 15-20.
They train on Thursdays and Sundays at Great Sankey Leisure Centre. For more information, visit www.sskarate.com.
