THE Lib-Dems swept to victory in a by election for the Callands seat on Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council.
Bernard Long won the by-election taking more than 62% of the vote with the Tories coming a poor third behind UKIP. Labour did not contest the seat.
Terry Probert, President of Warrington Liberal Democrats said:“We were surprised that Labour failed to field a candidate in this election.
“Having lost the Borough Council Westbrook seat in last May’s election we would have expected Labour to show they are still willing to represent Westbrook voters in Callands, apparently not.
“The Conservatives will also be disappointed to have been beaten into a weak third place by the UKIP candidate.”
