Cricket legends match raised £5,000

MORE than £5,000 was raised for Age UK by a “legends” cricket match featuring former England stars at Grappenhall Cricket Club.
Darren Gough, Derek Randall, Dean Headley, Alex Tudor, Steve Harmison and Grappenhall-born Neil Fairbrother were among the ex-England players to take part in the game between a Professional Cricket Association Masters XI and an Age UK XI.
A packed Broad Lane ground saw the Masters XI triumph – but more importantly helped raise vital funds for the charity which will be used to help older people in need.
After the match there was a gala dinner with a silent auction of sporting memorabilia, including a bat signed by the current England team.
Age UK spokesman Hugh Forde said: “We knew it was going to be exciting watching our team battling it out against some of England’s finest cricketers.
“We were disappointed to be beaten, but pleased that so many people turned out to enjoy the day and helped raise so much money.”
