WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed that winger Chris Riley and Aussie forward Trent Waterhouse will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.
Warrington-born Riley has made just one appearance for his home-town club this campaign – the opening fixture against St Helens – but has spent much of the season on loan at Wakefield Wildcats. Since his debut he has made a total of 180 appearances in primrose and blue including the many highs with Challenge Cup trophy wins at Wembley, Grand Final appearances and as part of the League Leaders squad in 2011. He has crossed for 120 tries, the third most by a Warrington-born player.
With the support of Squadbuilder Riley came up through the ranks at the club having played his junior rugby with Woolston Rovers ARLFC. He developed as a player through Warrington’s scholarship and academy before making his first-team debut back in August 2005 earning heritage number 1061.
Waterhouse, heritage number 1098, is also among the players departing at the end of the current campaign. Waterhouse, made his Warrington debut in 2012 having joined from Penrith Panthers, where he had been a one-club man. Before his move to the Wolves he played twice for Australia in the 2009 Four Nations Tournament and five times for New South Wales in State of Origin matches.
His Warrington career to date has 78 appearances including the 2012 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley. He’s crossed for 19 tries including one this season.
First-team squad members Jordan Burke, Danny Bridge, James Saltonstall and Gavin Bennion will also move on at the end of 2014 season. Burke and Bridge earned heritage numbers, 1102 and 1105 respectively, Burke made one appearance in 2012 and Bridge three last season.
As previously reported, Michael Monaghan is retiring upon completion of the 2014 season and departing coaching staff include first team coaches Willie Poching and Richard Marshall, strength and conditioner Chris Baron, sports scientist Andy Holleyhead, soft tissue therapist Amanda Turner and joint U19s community coach Danny Fullerton.
Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith added: “All of these players and coaches have been a pleasure to work with over their time at the club and have contributed to our continuing success. We’ve all built up a great relationship and anybody who has been part of the Warrington family will always be welcomed back. We wish them all well for the future and look forward to our paths crossing in the future.”
