VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed for Lymm’s next historic transport event

which has become a huge attraction for the village after just two shows.
When the Lymm Transport Day organisers met recently to discuss the outcome of the 2014 event almost the first item on the agenda was “will it be on again next year? “
It was a pretty easy decision to make following the enormous success of this year’s event and the group were unanimous in deciding to go ahead again next year on Sunday June 28.
Event Director Alan Williams (pictured right) explained: “It was a huge amount of work for all concerned but a lot of it is a learning curve and an investment in the future. In theory it should get simpler every year but as the event grows we also need to come up with new ways to ensure things run smoothly and that everyone, including exhibitors, traders , residents and visitors all have a positive experience”.
Helped by the weather the event attracted over 7,000 visitors and while most aspects went smoothly there will be areas where the team will still looking to make improvements. Most importantly there is a recognition of the need to strengthen and grow the volunteer team, not just on the day itself but for the many jobs that spread out from September onwards that contribute toward everything being as good as it can be on the day.
“We hear and read a lot about ways of ensuring that the village continues to thrive and we believe that an event this has an important and very positive effect,” added Project Manager Deb Willacy. “Many of the thousands of people who passed through the village on the day were on a first visit and had nothing but enthusiastic feedback about what a great place it is for a day visit.”
So if you want to make a positive difference to your community and get involved in helping to organise a great event now is the time to act. The team will be meeting regularly over the coming year starting on September 25. This first session will focus on coming up with new ideas to keep the event fresh and exciting.
