Former culture secretary in town

DAME Tessa Jowell, the former Olympics Minister and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport visited Warrington to mark the official start of work on the “Stadium Quarter” – location for the town’s new business incubator and University Technical College.
The Dulwich MP was invited by Nick Bent, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South and borough council leader Cllr Terry O’Neill
She met the site developers and then attended a business roundtable with local firms at the Town Hall.
Dame Tessa said: “Labour is the party of enterprise, aspiration and
opportunity and I’m delighted to see Nick Bent working with the Labour Council to put these values into action – creating more good jobs and ensuring local young people have the skills to get them.”
Mr Bent said: “As a Warrington MP I would champion local businesses and
make sure Labour keeps its pledges to cut business rates, freeze energy billsand ensures more investment flows to local firms through a new British Investment Bank.”
Dame Tessa has connections with Warrington through the Olympics and through the Peace Centre.
During her time as a Cabinet Minister in the last government, she helped bring the Olympics to Britain and served on the Olympics Strategy Board, right up until the end of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
She was also the Cabinet Minister responsible for supporting British citizens affected by terrorist attacks.
