Eight win apprentice jobs

EIGHT Warrington residents are celebrating after starting work as apprentices with the town’s largest social housing provider.
They are working in the property services division of Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT)H, spending their time learning a trade.
The new apprentices will have the opportunity to be involved in the day to day response repairs service, as well as some of the capital investment projects which the Trust is involved in to improve their tenants’ homes.
They include four electricians, two roofers, one plumber and one plasterer. Their apprenticeship will last up to three years and it will entail gaining experience within the Trust, alongside an NVQ qualification in their relevant trade through Warrington Collegiate.
Each year a number of ambitious, hard-working individuals have been given the opportunity to learn a range of skills by working with the Trust’s experienced trades people.
More than 150 people applied for the eight positions, giving staff the unenviable task of narrowing it down to the best candidates.
The unsuccessful applicants were invited to sign up for the Trust’s Positive Change initiative and take part in their newly established “first steps to trade programme” which offers candidates a range of courses for free, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Manual Handling, First Aid, Working at Heights and Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).
GGHT chairman Roy Smith said: “We are delighted to be welcoming these new staff to join us.
“Apprenticeships are a brilliant opportunity for young people to get their feet on the career ladder and hone their skills and trades. We have been elated with the success of our first apprentices and look forward to watching our new recruits develop.”
New apprentice, Nick Chambers, said: “I know I am very lucky to have been able to secure an apprenticeship with GGHT but at the same time I know I have worked incredibly hard to get this. I can’t wait to get started now!”
