Play project shortlisted for grant

A WARRINGTON play project has been shortlisted for a grant in a national scheme – but it now needs local people to vote for it if it is to win.
The Glazebury Play Space Committee is the only local community group shortlisted from more than 4,500 who applied for grants through the Lloyds Banking Community Fund.
They are well on the way to completing a “natural” play area for the village.
Only four organisations have been shortlisted and the public vote to decide which will win the top prize of £3,000 starts today.
The runner-up will receive £2,000, the third placed £1,000 and the fourth placed £500.
Voting will continue to October 10.
Local people can vote as follows:
On Twitter – by tweeting #Commfund LJV
By SMS – simply text “Vote LJV” to 61119
Online – visit https://lly-cf.com/LJV
Culcheth and Glazebury councillor Chris Vobe (pictured) is trying to spread the word among fellow councillors and the wider public to persuade them to take part in the vote.
Working with the Mersey Forest, the Glazebury Play Space Committee has created a natural play space for local youngsters on land leased from Bents Garden and Home.
They are seeking a grant to go on to the next stage – the creation of a planting area with raised beds.
Cllr Vobe said: Glazebury Community Play Area is a very different kind of play space.
“It has natural features such as climbing logs, wildflowers, fruit trees, a willow tunnel and den building areas, to encourage children to engage in natural play.
“Over the next few weeks, the group hope to start the construction of the main footpath onto the site followed by a the creation of a growing area next season to encourage use by the whole community.”
