POLICE are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who is believed to have been taken ill shortly after attending the Creamfields music festival, near Warrington.
Paramedics were called to a Travelodge hotel near Widnes and found the man suffering from breathing difficulties.
He was taken to Whiston Hospital, on Merseyside, where he died a short time later.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said police were called to the hotel in the early hours of August 24 by the North West Ambulance Service who had been called to deal with a man suffering from serious medical problems.
He was taken to Whiston Hospital where his condition deteriorated and, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died a short time later.
A post mortem examination is due to take place later this week but the cause of death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Officers are examining whether it was in any way drug related.
An investigation is underway and officers are currently piecing together as much information as possible in a bid to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The man’s family have been notified.
Enquiries are ongoing and police are urging anyone who may have any information in relation to the incident to make contact with Cheshire Police by calling 101.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously on the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
Police are also investigating the possibility that a 22-year-old man from Glasgow who was killed in a road collision at the junction of the A56 Chester Road with the A558 Daresbury Expressway, near Warrington, may have attended Creamfields.
The incident was reported by Warrington-Worldwide on Tuesday.
