Votes letter left people confused

A LETTER sent to Warrington residents about changes to the way to register to vote have left many people confused, a local councillor has claimed.
Cllr Paul Campbell, (pictured) Conservative Parliamentary spokesman for Warrington North and a member of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, says he has been contacted by a number of concerned residents.
He said: “Many Warrington residents are very concerned over changes to the registration of their details on the electoral register enabling them to vote.
“Warrington Borough Council’s electoral office has been sending letters to all residents on the voting register explaining that in future the way to register to vote is changing.
“What is causing concern is that a large number of voters find themselves on the open register which is not used for elections but can be sold to any person, company or organisation.
“I have been contacted by many residents who are concerned that their details can be provided to cold callers and that they will be bombarded with junk mail.
“I find the letter on some points to be a little confusing in that it begins with the line ‘you don’t need to do anything else’ but then, when read through, some residents find they are confused.
“I can only recommend that all residents read the letter fully and if they are still confused they should contact the Warrington Borough Council Electoral Services at the address and email provided on the letter “I have done so and I found them to be very helpful.”
