£1,230 grant for dog owners' group

A GROUP of dog owners at Warrington has been awarded a grant of £1,230 to help them bring anti-social dog owners to heel.
People and Dogs (PAD) is a group of dog lovers in the Bewsey and Dallam area who have come together to promote responsible dog ownership.
Formed through a partnership between Golden Gates Housing Trust, Warrington Borough Council, Cheshire Constabulary and local residents the group believes every dog owner should have their dog’s interest at heart.
The grant has come from Cheshire Police and Crime commissioner John Dwyer’s crime prevention fund.
Members of the group have already come up with a “Responsible Dog Owner Pledge”, which is a guide to what is expected of a responsible dog owner.
Mr Dwyer (pictured) said: “Allowing dogs to foul footpaths is disgusting and an inconvenience for everyone in the community and also comes with serious health risks.
“I want to get tough on anti-social behaviour issues like these, and it’s a pleasure to see people taking an active part in addressing the issue.”
Golden Gates Housing enforcement officer Richard Bennet said: “PAD sees a number of partners and residents coming together to tackle nuisance dogs and their owners in the Bewsey and Dallam area. It is hoped that in the near future the group will expand and the pledge will be rolled out to all areas of Warrington.”
The group meets once a month at Bewsey Community Centre and anybody is welcome to join.
By signing the Responsible Dog Owner pledge residents will be making a clear statement of commitment to their dog and how they believe they should behave as its owner.
More information and details of how to find the pledge can be found at www.gght.org.uk/pets.
