WINNERS of the annual garden competition for tenants of Warrington’s Golden Gates Housing Trust have been announced – with Rixton resident Roland Adcock named as overall winner.
The competition, now in its 10th year, saw tenants from across the borough competing in categories for best garden and most improved garden.
It aims to recognise and reward those tenants who go the extra mile, creating gardens that improve the look of their local area.
Winners were: Best Garden: 1, Roy Chester, Longford; 2, Ronald Warburton, Sankey; 3, Sylvia Graham, Longford. Most improved: 1, Lisa Shingler, Orford; 2, Anthony Kearns, Cotsworld Road; 3, Sylvia and Roy Griffiths, – Burtonwood.
Overall winner Roland Adcock impressed the judges because of the impressive array of fruit and vegetables grown in the garden, his use of recycled materials and the overall look and appearance of his garden.
Golden Gates Housing chairman Roy Smith (pictured)said: “Our resident garden competition gives recognition to those who lead by example and inspire others in the community to look after their gardens.
“Once again, I’m very pleased to see so many people enter the garden competition; though judging seems to get harder every year. All of the gardens we visited were a credit to the people looking after them. However, there can only be one overall winner, so many congratulations to Mr Adcock.”
